The projects of philosophers do not occur in a historical and cultural vacuum, and understanding the situations they were living in illuminates their philosophical projects and works. This lecture series focuses on examining the historical contexts in which thinkers like Epictetus, Thomas Aquinas, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and Simone de Beauvoir were writing in relation to their main ideas. November's session will focus on Simone de Beauvoir.
