Weyenberg Library now Offers 3 Kindles
On March 10, 2009, the Frank L. Weyenberg Library of Mequon and Thiensville became the first public library in Wisconsin to circulate an Amazon Kindle 2, the revolutionary wireless reading device. Due to surging demand, an additional 2 Kindles were added to the collection shortly after. All patrons with a Weyenberg Library card will have the opportunity to check out and take the electronic reader home with them.
The Library's first Kindle was purchased thanks to an anonymous donor. The Kindle 2 weighs 10.2 ounces and is just over 1/3 of an inch thick, making it lighter than a typical paperback and as thin as most magazines. It offers many accessibility features, such as the ability to change text size or have the book read to you using text-to-speech technology. The Kindle also comes equipped with a built-in dictionary for easy reference.
The titles available on the Weyenberg Library's Kindles are listed below. Patrons are encouraged to request the Kindle that has the most titles they would like to read, though they are likely to receive the device with the fewest requests sooner. The Kindle can be checked out for one week at a time. Weyenberg Library patrons who would like to reserve the Kindle can do so by calling the reference desk at 262-242-2593, extension 12, or by searching for "Kindle" through Easicat. The Kindle can only be picked up at, and returned to, the Weyenberg Library.
