Cultural Conversations: What is Going On in Our World?

Sunday, September 29, 2019

Our political system is stagnating; our society is splitting more or less down the middle. We know that we are not alone, that the international arena is equally stressed with the rise of authoritarians, the assault on liberal democratic practices, and the rise of populism. What does this mean? Why is it happening now? Let's explore some options.

John Katzka is a retired U.S. Foreign Service Officer with 32 years of diplomatic service and 38 years of federal service. He's served in Thailand, Yugoslavia, Moscow, Zambia, Romania, Kosovo, Macedonia, and France. Katzka is a Milwaukee native and a UWM alumnus. He conducted graduate studies at George Washington and American Universities in Sino-Soviet Politics. And he's an enthusiastic champion of public libraries!
